बुद्ध्या विशुद्धया युक्तो धृत्यात्मानं नियम्य च।

शब्दादीन्विषयांस्त्यक्त्वा रागद्वेषौ व्युदस्य च॥

Buddhya vishuddhaya yukto dhritya-atmanam niyamya cha

Shabdadin vishayams-tyaktva raga-dveshau vyudasya cha

विशुद्ध बुद्धि से युक्त, धैर्य से आत्मा को संयमित करके, शब्दादि विषयों को त्यागकर, राग और द्वेष को दूर करके —

English Translation

Endowed with purified intellect, controlling the self with firm resolve, giving up sense objects like sound, and casting aside attachment and aversion —

Commentary (टीका)

This begins a multi-verse description of the path to Brahman-realization. The first requirements are a purified intellect, resolute self-control, withdrawal from sensory attachments, and freedom from the dualities of like and dislike. These create the internal conditions necessary for the highest realization.
