English Translation

That tumultuous sound, reverberating through the sky and the earth, pierced the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons.

Commentary (टीका)

The collective sound of the Pandava conches had a devastating psychological effect on the Kauravas. This is symbolic — the call of dharma (righteousness) strikes fear in the hearts of those who stand on the side of adharma. The cosmic scale of the sound foreshadows the cosmic significance of the war.
