Of the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; of the gods I am Indra; of the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am consciousness.
Commentary (टीका)
The Sama Veda is considered the most melodious of the Vedas, Indra is the king of gods, the mind is the chief of all senses, and consciousness is the essence of life. Krishna identifies Himself with the most distinguished element in each category. The identification with consciousness (chetana) is particularly profound, as it connects God to the very principle of awareness in all life.
