अधश्चोर्ध्वं प्रसृतास्तस्य शाखा
गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः।
अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि
कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके॥२॥

Guna-Pravruddha Vishaya-Pravalah.
Adhash-Cha Mulany-Anusantatani
Karma-Anubandhini Manushya-Loke.

इसकी शाखाएँ नीचे और ऊपर फैली हैं, गुणों से पोषित हैं, विषय इसके अंकुर हैं। नीचे मनुष्यलोक में कर्मबन्धन करने वाली जड़ें भी फैली हुई हैं।
English Translation
Its branches spread below and above, nourished by the Gunas, with sense objects as its buds. Below, in the human world, its roots also extend, binding through action.
Commentary (टीका)
The cosmic tree's branches extend both upward (to higher realms) and downward (to lower realms), nourished by the three Gunas. The sense objects are the tender buds that attract beings to worldly experience. The secondary roots extending downward in the human world represent the karmic bonds that keep beings trapped in the cycle of action and reaction.
