न रूपमस्येह तथोपलभ्यते

नान्तो न चादिर्न च सम्प्रतिष्ठा।

अश्वत्थमेनं सुविरूढमूलम्

असङ्गशस्त्रेण दृढेन छित्त्वा॥३॥

Transliteration

Na Rupam-Asye-Ha Tatho-Palabdhyate

Na-Anto Na Cha-Adir-Na Cha Sampratishtha.

Ashvattham-Enam Suvi-Rudha-Mulam

Asanga-Shastrena Dridhena Chhittva.

इस वृक्ष का स्वरूप यहाँ वैसा नहीं पाया जाता — न इसका अन्त है, न आदि, न आधार। इस गहरी जड़ों वाले अश्वत्थ को दृढ़ वैराग्य रूपी शस्त्र से काटकर —

English Translation

The form of this tree is not perceived here as such — neither its end, nor its beginning, nor its foundation. Having cut this deep-rooted Ashvattha tree with the strong axe of non-attachment —

Commentary (टीका)

The cosmic tree of worldly existence cannot be fully grasped by the intellect — it has no discernible beginning, end, or fixed foundation. Yet Krishna prescribes the remedy: the firm weapon of non-attachment (Vairagya). Only complete dispassion toward worldly pleasures can sever the deeply rooted bonds of material existence. This verse continues into the next.
