Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

English Translation

Austerity performed with foolish obstinacy, by means of self-torture, or for the purpose of destroying another — that is declared to be tamasic.

Commentary (टीका)

The worst form of austerity involves self-harm through ignorance or intent to harm others. Self-mortification without wisdom is not spiritual discipline but foolish stubbornness. Austerity used as a weapon against others perverts its sacred purpose completely.
