Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga - The Yoga of the Division of Threefold Faith

श्रद्धात्रयविभागयोगः · श्रद्धा के तीन प्रकारों का योग

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 17, Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga, explores the threefold nature of faith (shraddha) according to the three gunas — sattva, rajas, and tamas. Prompted by Arjuna's question about those who worship with faith but disregard scriptural rules, Krishna explains that every person's faith corresponds to their innate nature. The chapter systematically classifies food, sacrifice, austerity, and charity into sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic categories. Sattvic food promotes health and longevity, sattvic sacrifice is performed without desire for reward, and sattvic charity is given selflessly at the right time and place. Krishna also describes three types of austerity — physical, verbal, and mental. The chapter culminates with the sacred teaching of Om Tat Sat, the threefold designation of Brahman, establishing that all acts of sacrifice, charity, and austerity should be performed with faith and dedication to the Supreme.
