English Translation

Then the valiant grandfather Bhishma, the oldest of the Kuru dynasty, roared loudly like a lion and blew his conch, filling Duryodhana's heart with joy.

Commentary (टीका)

Bhishma responds not with words but with action — a thunderous lion's roar and the blast of his conch. This was meant to bolster Duryodhana's confidence. The patriarch understands the young king's anxiety and reassures him with this warrior's greeting.
