श्रीभगवानुवाच —

इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते।

एतद्यो वेत्ति तं प्राहुः क्षेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विदः॥२॥

Transliteration

Shri Bhagavan Uvacha —

Idam Shariram Kaunteya Kshetram-Ity-Abhidhiyate.

Etad-Yo Vetti Tam Prahuh Kshetrajna Iti Tad-Vidah.

Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

श्रीभगवान ने कहा — हे कौन्तेय! यह शरीर 'क्षेत्र' कहा जाता है और जो इसे जानता है उसे ज्ञानीजन 'क्षेत्रज्ञ' कहते हैं।

English Translation

The Blessed Lord said — This body, O son of Kunti, is called the field, and the one who knows it is called the knower of the field by the wise.

Commentary (टीका)

Krishna begins by defining the two fundamental categories. The body is the field where actions are performed and their results experienced, while the soul is the conscious witness who knows the field. This distinction between the seen and the seer is central to Vedantic philosophy.
