इन्द्रियार्थेषु वैराग्यमनहङ्कार एव च।

जन्ममृत्युजराव्याधिदुःखदोषानुदर्शनम्॥९॥

Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

इन्द्रिय-विषयों में वैराग्य, अहंकार का अभाव, और जन्म, मृत्यु, जरा, व्याधि तथा दुःख में दोष का बार-बार दर्शन —

English Translation

Dispassion towards sense objects, absence of ego, and constant perception of the evil and suffering inherent in birth, death, old age, and disease —

Commentary (टीका)

The seeker must cultivate detachment from sensory pleasures and dissolve the false ego. Repeatedly contemplating the sufferings inherent in the cycle of birth, death, old age, and disease develops the dispassion needed for spiritual progress. This is not pessimism but clear-sighted wisdom.
