यातयामं गतरसं पूति पर्युषितं च यत्।

उच्छिष्टमपि चामेध्यं भोजनं तामसप्रियम्॥

Yata-yamam gata-rasam puti paryushitam cha yat

Uchchhishtam-api cha-amedhyam bhojanam tamasa-priyam

Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

जो भोजन बासी, रसहीन, दुर्गन्धयुक्त, पर्युषित (रात का रखा हुआ), जूठा और अपवित्र है — वह तामसिक लोगों को प्रिय होता है।

English Translation

Food that is stale, tasteless, foul-smelling, decomposed, leftover, and impure is dear to those in the mode of ignorance.

Commentary (टीका)

Tamasic food lacks life force and nourishment. Consuming such food promotes lethargy, dullness, and disease. The Gita teaches that even the most basic choice of what to eat has spiritual implications and can either uplift or degrade consciousness.
