English Translation

Foods that are bitter, sour, salty, very hot, pungent, dry, and burning are dear to those in the mode of passion. They cause pain, grief, and disease.

Commentary (टीका)

Rajasic food stimulates and aggravates the body and mind. Excessive spices and extreme flavors create restlessness and eventually lead to physical ailments. This verse warns that the temporary excitement from such foods comes at the cost of long-term health and peace.
