श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता अध्याय 2, श्लोक 12

Sanskrit Shloka (श्लोक)

न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः।

न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम्॥१२॥

Transliteration

Na Tv-Eva-Aham Jatu Na-Asam Na Tvam Neme Jana-Adhipah.

Na Chaiva Na Bhavishyamah Sarve Vayam-Atah Param.||12||

Word-by-Word Meaning (अन्वय)

न तु एवna tu evanever indeed

Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)

ऐसा कभी नहीं था कि मैं नहीं था, या तुम नहीं थे, या ये राजा लोग नहीं थे। और ऐसा भी नहीं होगा कि इसके बाद हम सब नहीं रहेंगे।

English Translation

There was never a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings. And there will never be a time when we shall cease to exist.

Commentary (टीका)

Krishna establishes the foundational principle of the Gita — the eternality of the individual soul. Note that He says 'we' (plural) will continue to exist, affirming the individual existence of each soul even in the future. This verse refutes both nihilism (nothing exists) and the idea that souls merge into nothingness after liberation.
