Hindi Translation (हिन्दी अर्थ)
जो वचन उद्वेग (कष्ट) न करने वाला, सत्य, प्रिय और हितकारी हो, तथा स्वाध्याय का अभ्यास — यह वाणी का तप कहलाता है।
English Translation
Speech that causes no distress, that is truthful, pleasant, and beneficial, along with the regular practice of scriptural study — this is called the austerity of speech.
Commentary (टीका)
Verbal austerity requires that speech be truthful yet kind, beneficial yet not hurtful. This fourfold qualification — non-disturbing, true, pleasant, and helpful — is a profound guide for communication. Regular study of sacred texts further disciplines and elevates one's words.
